Mental illness. It is not a topic we like to talk about, but we should.It is silly not to. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans suffers with one, yet we don’t talk about it. Why? No one ever got better by pretending something wasn’t there. I know first hand what it feels like to be trapped under the boulder of clinical depression. I barely made it out of that hopeless state alive. I know the rock of anxiety well, we are on a first name basis. I have learned to talk about it. That is how I stand on top of this rock instead of under it. For me, I need to feed my body healthy non-processed food. That isn’t always what I am craving, but it is what I need. I need to be out in nature daily. I require daily exercise to stay in balance and I need sleep. I also meditate, that quiet still time keeps me grounded and life in perspective. It sounds simple, but those things changed my life dramatically. Besides that, I have two great support people so when that boulder starts creeping in I call then, I don’t wait until I am completely under it to start talking. That for me is a winning combination that keeps me dancing on top of the boulder these days.If you are struggling, reach out, there is an entire network of people trained to help you.
